Anna Sofie Keller Brandsborg is a freelance opera director based in Berlin and Copenhagen with a particular focus on producing and directing opera in new formats. She is animated by the importance of critically rethinking what opera is, can, and should be – of expanding the array of artists included, voices heard and stories told.

Anna Sofie Keller is a freelance director based in Berlin and Copenhagen with a particular focus on directing and creating Music Theater in new formats. She is animated by the importance of critically rethinking what opera is, can, and should be – of expanding the array of artists included, voices heard and stories told.
Anna Sofie has directed and worked as director at Copenhagen Opera Festival, Operaen I midten, Opera Hedeland and staff Director at Operaen, Det Kongelige Theater.a.o. and will have her debut at Deustche Oper Berlin i 2025 with the world premiere of the newly written opera ”Cave” at the Tischlerei. Anna Sofie has a keen interest in experimental and new creative processes.
She independently produces and directs her own work in her company Neugeboren Opera Group (The Undoing of Carmen, A Child is Born a.m) and as part of the opera collective Venteværelset and has directed multiple new pieces by several living composers.
Her durational opera party bus RIDESINGREPEATT has been shortlisted for the Art Explora – Académie des beaux-arts European Award 2023.
Anna Sofie has a broad-spectered artistic and academic background that she incorporates in her directorial practice. She is currently completing a master in opera directing at Hanns Eisler Academy of Music, Berlin (graduates 2025) and parallel following as Nebenhörerin the Directing class in Schauspiel directing 2024/2025 at Ernst Busch Schauspiel Schule, Berlin. She has furthermore, been mentored by Stephen Wadstforth at The Juilliard School in New York. She trained in classical singing with Susanna Ekan at MGK Frederiksberg and Vadstena, Sweden and holds a bachelor in Theater and Performance Studies from the University of Copenhagen and Freie University, Berlin. As a member of the internationally renowned immersive performance group Sisters Hope, she performed in Copenhagen, Oslo, Berlin, and Saint Petersburg.
